My proposition with tools and methods using (WIP)- Follow up on fsfi/camp#6 (closed)

September 19: Registration for both mentors and learners

Announcement of the camp and registration of mentors start. Last date for registration of mentors - October 9. Last date for registration of learners - October 15.

October 11: Interaction with mentors, explain the motivations and goals of the camp

Remind mentors to add their ideas to ideas list.

October 17, Saturday; October 18, Sunday: Ice Breaking

(A friendly not power imposing person or people should handle the sessions)

Day 1: (Start with live session on big blue button)

  • Pre-recorded small video/interactive session via video conference explaining tools and process.
  • In the common English session explain how to use BBB, matrix and mailing list (Netiquette can be mentioned here)
  • Make groups according to language preferences

Day 2:

  • Build a tree of knowledge wishes!

Introduction: We all know that our society's progress depends on our knowledge. For example, knowledge of making fire was a big step in our society. Another example is natural language. Like that there are different kinds of knowledges that helped us to grow. Today, we are going to do a simple activity in which we build a tree with our knowledge wishes on its leaves. Which means a knowledge that you think it needs to be preserved for the whole society.

Description: Participants give their knowledge wish in the BBB shared notes section. The person handling can read out and another artist/person who should share screen and add those words in leaves of a tree with a lot of branches. The leaves can contain one or two or more words which will be a particular knowledge that the person wishes to be preserved for the future of humanity. The final image of the tree can be added to the website as a first output of the camp.

Remarks: Vector image may be better here for the consistency of images in the website. A person who is skilled in Inkscape could help here.

On the idea of controls in the current society

Day 1:

Introduction: To understand Freedom, we should first understand lack of freedom in our lives. So we are going to look into various controls that exist in our society.

Description: Divide the whole team into say 5 groups and assign one of the below topics for each to read, research and discuss on the given block of paragraph/quotes/video. There should be at-least one organizer assigned to each team who can be with them in the process. Then on the fifth day they have to present at-least one concept from the reading material in any form: it can be a small video, just express each one in the group, a short poem, a painting etc. Only rule is everyone in the group should participate in the creation. The day they present their work/ideas, there can also be a discussion between the groups to add their experience on the topic (moderator should not be biased on any topic and should be capable of initiating questions).

Concept of Free Software

  • not in a direct way- start from historical fights for free knowledge and then come to gnu projects story (a person who speaks with good clarity with appropriate words should handle this);

  • (Praveen) discuss about how software affects our lives - from medical devices connected to our bodies, electronic voting machines deciding our rulers, to big corporations influencing our behaviors and decisions by collecting our personal data and building personal profiles. So people who control these software can control our lives.

  • A film streaming and discussion: 'Batallie du libre' or 'internets own boy' or any other movie/documentary that can give thoughts on FS.

  • Meet contributors: have discussions with contributors from different areas; if it is not possible with everyone then a pre-recorded video is enough

Choose a way forward

-This is the brain storming period for participants; during this time at-least one volunteer should be available on-line in a particular time of the day to answer participants worries/ doubts/ questions.

(participants should be able to choose a way forward in this matter if they feel to. This is where mentors have a role.)

November 20: Last date of submitting proposals

November 21: Discussion between organizers and mentors

Evaluation of proposals and mentor assignment

November 23: Start working with mentors

December 19: Submit first report

December 20: First review meeting

Separate discussion with mentors and learners
