Do we ask the preferred language for communication in the registration form for Learners/Mentees?

And I have a doubt that there might be some who wouldn't be comfortable in replying in English, are we open to Malayalam or regional language responses? If we are, we might provide a list of languages we can handle.

@Anupa kobotoolbox supports translations and I already translated the mentor registration form to Malayalam.

Gender is useful if you want to know the breakdown of participant genders.

@asd but we can get the same from pronouns, right?

We can't get gender from pronouns. There will be collisions because there are only so many pronouns but many more genders.
