Done and pushed to http://gitlab.com/balasankarc/python-letsencrypt-nginx . But, upstream still says the plugin is experimental and hence Debian Letsencrypt team doesn't plan to package it yet. They promised to fix this as soon as at least a beta is released. :)

@balasankarc see gitlab commits, letsencrypt is fully automated now. I stop nginx, retrieves certificates and starts nginx again, as bonus, nginx configuration is reloaded making the gitlab instance accessible after the installation is complete without manual nginx reload!
We really need the letsencrypt-nginx plugin to complete the puzzle by enabling auto renewals. @balasankarc can you try the nginx plugin, there is already one for apache.
